xgray's things and stuff

this journal is primarily used for showing off my photography, there's very little--if any--actual journaling going on here anymore.

most of my photos are posted to my flickr stream these days. so if you have a flickr account, that's probably the best way to keep up with my photography.

that said...

if you're interested in keeping up with my photography through your livejournal friends page, then feel free to add me--the more the merrier! :-) however, i don't check my "friend count" very often so unless you make an effort to get my attention, i'll probably not add you back. if that's important to you, then getting my attention generally means commenting on photos, asking questions...etc.

if i've added you as a friend out of the blue and you're wondering why or who i am, it's probably because i like your photography and couldn't find you on the flickr.

i should really paint an "x" on the step i alway stand on to shoot this light--for posterity's sake. it's the magic step. nothing i've shot from there ever looks bad...and yes, i've experimented with other steps--with mixed results.

this one is a fairly aggressive crop. i was shooting through a glass door with windows behind me and thought the reflections would look good and they probably would have in color, but not black and white...but this part, that was right in the middle, is perfect.

here's another bit of shameless self-promotion from me to you, but it's one of those times when i feel like "see, now this is why i do this." anyways...

round about the time i put together that sunflower book i also put together a miniature (smaller format, fewer photos, lower price) version of the previous fullsize xgray vision book, because some folks asked. well, i didn't really promote it here, however, today i received this review/comment on the book and felt the need to share, because it really made my day.

I just got mine in the mail. It looks, feels and smells amazing. I can't imagine how you managed to pick from all your images but the end result is both satisfying and leaves me yearning for more. I'm a fan of your work online but in print, your brilliance really comes through. Anyway, I'm thrilled to finally have my copy of this book. Thank you. [link]

Following the Sun: Sunflower Portraits (book)

took a ton of sunflower photos last summer, since we were overrun with them. i only posted a few choice ones online, but wanted to do something with the larger collection--hence the book.

definitely not my usual thing, but worth checking out all the same.
